This is part II of my Gogi review. Man did we have a good time at this place. Funny, I look at myself rockin’ out as a middle aged man and eh, oh well, Metallica is correct, time marches on.
Anyway, Dina and I had a blast, this is are really fun local place that you gotta check out if you are in the valley. They play great music and it was awesome to hear AC/DC as Malcolm is on a lot of our minds that loved his work. Anyway, they have a couple of really old machines, it has been a long time, I was a big Black Knight fan. Asteroids would get a few quarters from me if they had it but all the games are fun. Makes me want to get back into it. I realize why my buddy Pete has a bunch of these in his basement. I almost bought one online while I was there, until Dina talked a little sense into me. 2 Thumbs up ‘cuz that’s all I got!
ps. R.I.P. Malcolm Young, you were a cornerstone of AC/DC and that will live on forever. You rocked the shit out of us and we salute you!
The video says it all. Dina suggested we go to an AYCE KBBQ joint called Gogi. 4 miles from the crib, get within a block and the smell draws you in. Big place, and they need it, because it is good. Ask for 1/2 orders of everything because there is so much good stuff you want to try it all. I digress, we walk in and there are a few pinball machines in the *out of place* foyer. I ain’t complainin’ I calls it how I sees it. Anyway, Dina didn’t like her parking spot, I asked if I could get a beer after checking in and they pointed me to the bar in the back. Go to the back and there is a pinball bar. I am head over heals with the place. Resonable, great food, impossible to walk away hungry. GET HERE! Gogi 7128 Van Nuys Blvd, Van Nuys, CA 91405 (818) 465-3050.
So in the heat of cooking (pun intended) I purposely used a button on my oven I thought would keep my settings locked, instead, it is designed to keep children safe and not allow them to use the oven. Insert childish Vic comment here! Anyway, I had seen a post on a friends facebook page about something called Spatchocking and saw briefly that you can cook a bird quickly. Well, it worked as you can see from the video. This bird was excellent and cooked in 80 minutes saving Thanksgiving. Thanks Mary and whoever thought up spatchcocking.
So, I am eating in the Hellcat now. It is kind of like when you are in a relationship and you start doing things in front of your partner that you didn’t do when you were first dating. It was only a matter of time…
So since last week Dad Has been intrested in getting Corn beef , pastrami and matzo ball soup. We are at Brent’s In Northridge and the feast is coming to a screeching halt. We have quite a few leftovers so that’ll keep Dad busy for the next couple of days.
We went to Sushi by Jin tonight. An all you can eat sushi joint in the valley we like for the value. We swing by there every couple 3 months for a feast. On this trip, Dina decapitates the *Blue Man* sushi. There was some spicy sauce on top and Dina likes food with a mild kick at best. Tonight’s service was notably underwhelming due to a couple runners who were new and apparently uninterested or having a bad day. That said, everyone else was very nice as usual and this will not stop us from coming back. Enjoy
So I was down in Boca visiting my sweet and charming Aunt Bernice. I used to stay at her home in Margate NJ when we would go *down the shore* in the summer when I was a kid. Mega bonus as Cousins Franny and Patty who used to take me to the beach and Franny’s daughter, Shaina Wizov of Take a Bite out of Boca fame were all in attendance for dinner. Three generations of family starring our matriarch enjoying the delicious, opulent and kitchy Rhythm Cafe in West Palm Beach.
The Rhythm Cafe is one of those, *everything is awesome* places. Tried and true dishes would be their Seafood Chowder which was LOADED with seafood, a light cream soup that was out of this world. The butternut squash soup equally delicious. The Insalata di Caprese was petite and pretty. Blackend scallops (not so blackened for Aunt Bernice as she doesn’t like spicy) were very good. Cousin Patty had the Tenderloin Tips which she enjoyed very much. I have had a lamb shank here last time and it was everything you would expect in a place that took their work seriously. Attention to detail is everywhere from the plates to the walls and it shows, in a big way.
When I eat fish, I prefer light flaky fishes, and they had Hogfish as the special. I had never heard of Hogfish, it is light and flaky on the order of Dover sole, Walleye or Snapper. Fish is prepared one of 6 ways (perfectly I might add). Anyway, I had the hogfish done amandine and it was off the charts. Waitstaff is attentive, charismatic and on point, while the ambiance rounds out the meal. Terms like *reasonably priced*, *great value* and *gotta take so and so there* come to mind. Anyway, if you are within 45 minutes of this place, do yourself a favor and get your butt over there, it is the cat’s meow.
